Tesla Model Y L Europe 2026: price, release date, and range

The long-wheelbase Model Y L is testing on German roads and at the Nürburgring, with up to 681 km WLTP range. Here's why Europe is still waiting.

Tesla continues testing the extended Model Y L on roads in Germany and at the Nürburgring, even though the six-seat version is already on sale in China and the US. The European crossover is still absent from the brand's configurator, but blaming the delay on homologation issues is not quite accurate: reports of European type approval surfaced back in late 2025. Tesla has not officially stated the reason for the postponement.

The Model Y L measures 4,976 mm in length with a 3,040 mm wheelbase—186 mm and 150 mm more, respectively, than the current five-seat Model Y. Thanks to the stretched roofline, the cabin gains three full rows in a 2+2+2 layout with separate middle seats. Details on five- and seven-seat European versions remain unconfirmed: in markets already open, Tesla offers only the six-seat configuration.

The American Model Y L Premium starts at $61,990 before mandatory fees. It comes with dual motors and all-wheel drive, hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and covers about 325 miles, or 523 km, by the US estimate. For other markets, Tesla cites up to 681 km on the WLTP cycle. Weight reaches 2,092 kg—roughly 166 kg more than the comparable five-seat version.

Testing at the Nürburgring may have less to do with certification itself and more with tuning the adaptive suspension, brakes, and software for European speeds. The stretched body and added mass call for different chassis calibration. The most cautious forecast, then, is order books opening in autumn 2026, though Tesla has yet to announce either a date or a European price.

SPEEDME reported back in February on the European approval of the Model Y L and its range of up to 681 km. A five-month pause following the apparent completion of certification shows that having the paperwork in hand doesn't guarantee an immediate launch: the company still needs to line up production, supply, and its configurator.

The model's arrival matters even more now that Tesla has ended production of the Model S and Model X. The Model Y L doesn't replace the flagship X in either equipment or status, but it fills the gap left behind with a relatively affordable family EV that has a third row adults can actually use.
