Zeekr 7GT, 8X and 9X New Zealand: What We Know So Far

Zeekr is effectively preparing to double its lineup in New Zealand. The local range currently consists of the X, 7X and 009, and the brand’s official page has already listed three models marked “Coming soon” — the electric 7GT and the hybrid crossovers 8X and 9X. The latter two shift the brand’s whole strategy: until now, Zeekr has sold only electric vehicles here.

Earlier, the presence of the 7GT, 8X and 9X at the August Zeekr On Ice event didn’t guarantee future sales — the cars could have been there purely for closed-door testing. Now the company is directly including all three in its future New Zealand lineup and inviting customers to register their interest.

The 7GT is the clearest of the three so far. The European car is built on an 800-volt architecture and offered with 75 and 100 kWh batteries. Rear-wheel-drive versions produce 421 hp, while the all-wheel-drive version makes 646 hp. The official maximum range is 655 km WLTP, and the fastest version charges from 10 to 80% in 13 minutes.

The 8X is a more complicated story. It’s already a Super Hybrid on a 900-volt architecture. Geely officially launched the model in China in April and confirms a 0-100 km/h time of 2.96 seconds for the tri-motor version. The Chinese lineup includes several powertrain variants, so it’s too early to apply the most powerful 8X’s figures to the future New Zealand car.

The same goes for the 9X. For example, the current European specification differs noticeably from the Chinese flagship: official Zeekr Europe figures currently list 897 hp, a 55 kWh battery, around 179 km of electric-only range and 737 km of combined range, and the manufacturer itself flags these numbers as preliminary. The New Zealand configuration hasn’t been revealed yet.

That’s why the 1,030 kW figures and the huge batteries from the Chinese versions — we’ve already covered the most powerful 9X version in detail — are best treated as the upper ceiling of what the family can do, not as a spec for the future Giltrap-sold cars.

Before they reach showrooms, all three can be seen in action as early as August: the official Zeekr On Ice event near Queenstown lists the 7GT, 8X and 9X alongside the current X and 7X.

The next important piece of information for the market isn’t maximum power, but pricing, right-hand-drive specifications and delivery dates. Giltrap hasn’t named any of these yet, and its own page separately warns that local specifications may differ.
