BMW iX3 40 2027: US Launch Timeline, Price Estimate and Specs

Four months could separate the start of production for BMW’s more affordable iX3 from the car’s arrival at American dealers. According to insider ynguldyn, the iX3 40 and the not-yet-officially-revealed iX3 40 xDrive will begin US-bound production in November 2026, with the first cars expected in March 2027. BMW has not confirmed an exact date.

Pricing also remains an open question. The US iX3 50 xDrive officially starts at $61,500, plus $1,350 for destination and handling. Its US market launch is set for September 25, 2026.

The technical side of the base iX3 40 is no longer a mystery. BMW officially unveiled the rear-wheel-drive model with a single electric motor rated at 235 kW, or 320 hp, and 500 Nm of torque. In place of the flagship’s 108.7 kWh battery, it uses an 82.6 kWh pack. The sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 5.9 seconds, and top speed is 200 km/h (124 mph).

The smaller battery also cut peak fast-charging power from 400 to 300 kW. Still, BMW says an 800-volt station can add up to 300 km of range in ten minutes, and a 10–80% charge takes 21 minutes. European WLTP range reaches 635–637 km; there’s no US EPA figure yet for the iX3 40. That number can’t be compared directly with the iX3 50 xDrive’s 434-mile EPA rating, since the two use different test cycles.

The main question is how much cheaper the entry-level version will actually be. In Germany, the iX3 40 is officially priced at €63,400, about €7,500 less than the iX3 50 xDrive on the same market.

That gap works out to roughly 10.6%. If BMW keeps a similar proportion in the US, a back-of-envelope estimate puts a rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 right around $55,000. That’s a calculation, not a published American price — and the all-wheel-drive 40 xDrive should logically cost more than the rear-wheel-drive variant.

Price is now the most interesting part of the story. Technically, the iX3 40 is already a known quantity: a smaller battery, a single motor, 300 kW charging, and noticeably less power than the American 50 xDrive’s 463 hp. But a March sales start, the existence of the 40 xDrive, and a final US price all still come from an unofficial source. BMW itself has only confirmed the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 exists, along with further expansion of the Neue Klasse family.
