Freelander 8 2026 Price and Specs: What China's New Chery-JLR SUV Costs

Back on July 19, the Freelander 8 was already sitting in Chinese showrooms, but customers couldn’t order one — pricing, trim levels and an order-taking date were all missing. That gap has now been closed. Pre-orders opened on August 14 starting at 339,900 yuan, with the range-topping First Edition priced at 449,900 yuan.

The five-seat version costs 339,900 yuan, the Pro trim 349,900 yuan, the Max 379,900 yuan and the Max+ 429,900 yuan. The First Edition, limited to 1,000 units, carries a guide price of 459,900 yuan but launches at a discounted 449,900 yuan — a 10,000-yuan, or 2.2%, saving.

Underneath, it’s a large EREV built on an 800-volt architecture. The CATL Freevoy battery, rated at 60.3 kWh, delivers a claimed 310 km of electric-only range on the CLTC cycle, and charging from 20% to 80% takes 12 minutes thanks to 6C support. Earlier figures for the same car cited 221 km on the WLTC cycle: the jump from 221 to 310 km isn’t a real range increase, just two different test cycles that can’t be compared directly.

The two electric motors produce a combined 610 kW and 813 Nm, taking the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. That 610 kW works out to roughly 818 hp. The rear motor alone makes 250 kW and drives through a two-speed reduction gear.

The whole lineup comes standard with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assist suite and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive chip. The rear wheels can steer up to ±10 degrees, enabling a “crab walk” mode, while the brakes use six-piston calipers and 404mm discs. The manufacturer also claims a shortest braking distance of 35.7 m.

Pre-orders were originally planned to open on August 10, following the start of production on July 30, but the actual launch slipped to the 14th. The next milestone isn’t about specs anymore — it’s delivery timing and the final retail price once the pre-order window closes.
