Toyota’s Alabama operation in the United States has begun producing differentials engineered for the brand’s iconic Tacoma and Tundra, as well as the Sequoia. The new production lines and 350 additional jobs are the result of a $282 million investment announced in 2024.

A differential lets the wheels on the same axle rotate at different speeds. That helps deliver smooth, safe control by allowing the outside wheel to cover more distance than the inside wheel through a corner — the kind of component you only notice when it’s doing its job.

Beyond differentials, Toyota Alabama supplies engines for seven of the nine Toyota vehicles assembled in North America. These engines account for nearly half of all powertrains built in the region.
