Dongfeng has announced a new benchmark for hybrid-focused gasoline engines: its dedicated 1.5T Mach unit achieves 48.09% thermal efficiency and has received an Energy-Efficiency Star certification from a Chinese specialist center. Put simply, the higher this figure, the more of the fuel’s energy turns into propulsion rather than losses—so drivers see lower consumption and it becomes easier to stay in an economical rhythm day to day.The company attributes the result to three development pillars supported by roughly ten integration measures. First comes denser, faster combustion: a claimed compression ratio above 15.5, a longer-stroke layout with a stroke-to-bore ratio over 1.45, injection pressure around 500 bar, and a strengthened ignition system. Second is improved breathing: an optimized intake and hybrid-friendly hardware such as VGT and electric VVT, aimed at keeping torque and response steady across a broad rev range. Third is the fight against mechanical losses, with an electric oil pump, cylinder thermal spraying, and other friction-reduction steps. The hardware list reads like a methodical pursuit of efficiency, which suits a hybrid’s real-world mission. Dongfeng says that in both city and highway driving the system can hold the engine in its most economical operating zone. According to the company, that brings roughly 100 kilometers more per tank and about a 10% increase in overall range versus the previous generation—meaning fewer fuel stops and lighter spending on gasoline.
