Toyota has once again underlined its dominance on the home market. For 2025, the country’s best-selling car was the Toyota Yaris, which returned to the top spot after a one-year absence.

According to data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association reviewed by SPEEDME.RU, the Yaris moved up from second to first, pushing last year’s leader, the Toyota Corolla, down. The Toyota Sienta held third place, just as it did a year earlier. As a result, the entire podium belonged to a single brand.

In Japan’s 2025 top 10, Toyota models occupied eight positions. The exceptions were the Honda Freed in sixth and the Nissan Note in tenth. The Toyota Raize, Roomy, and Noah also returned to the ranking after previously slipping out of the leaders.

In the manufacturer standings, Toyota comfortably took first place ahead of Honda and Nissan. Total new-vehicle registrations, including commercial and imported vehicles, reached 2.89 million units, posting a slight increase compared with the previous year.

The Yaris’s comeback at number one highlights steady demand for compact hybrids with low running costs. The structure of the market makes another point clear: in Japan, the fiercest battles increasingly play out not between rival badges, but between Toyota’s own nameplates.
