Volkswagen has partially removed camouflage from the prototype of the new 2026 T-Roc R, putting it through winter testing. The most powerful version of the compact crossover is being tested at temperatures as low as -30°C, revealing an updated front end with large air intakes and a revised bumper.

The model is slightly longer due to the more substantial body kit. Signature blue brake calipers and 19-inch wheels confirm its R-badged status, while the rear retains four exhaust pipes and the option for an Akrapovic system.

Volkswagen has already officially announced the powertrain specifications: a revised 2.0 TSI engine, similar in technology to the Golf R, with around 333 horsepower. A key innovation is the 48-volt mild hybrid system, which reduces fuel consumption and provides a brief electric boost. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, featuring Torque Vectoring and Drift Mode, keeping the platform focused on performance.

The IQ.Light optics will receive an update, including integrated logo lighting. The interior is expected to closely follow the current R-Line, with the emphasis shifted toward technology and driving dynamics.

The new T-Roc R will debut later this year, with production starting in 2027. The model will remain one of the most driver-focused compact SUVs in the VW lineup.
