Saudi Arabia is entering a new automotive era with its first national brand, Ceer, poised to launch electric vehicles starting in 2026. A high-tech industrial complex is rising on the Red Sea coast, designed to create a full EV ecosystem as part of the Vision 2030 strategy.

The Origins of Ceer

Ceer was established in 2022 as a joint venture between the sovereign wealth fund PIF and Foxconn, the world's largest electronics manufacturer. The brand aims to spur growth in national manufacturing, diversify the economy, and build a foundation for export potential. Since its launch, the company has grown to 1,800 employees, blending local talent with international engineers.

The KAEC Production Complex and Model Plans

Ceer's factory in King Abdullah Economic City is being built as one of the industry's most technologically advanced sites. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The first wave will include a sedan and an SUV, with Ceer planning to introduce seven models over the following five years. Production will be highly localized, with a target of 45% local components by 2034.

Ceer's Economic Impact

According to government estimates, the project is expected to add about $8 billion to GDP and improve the trade balance by $21 billion. It will create up to 30,000 jobs, including 6,500 direct positions, with 80% reserved for Saudi citizens. Ceer is also building a supplier network and aligning the project with the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims for carbon neutrality by 2060.

Overall, Ceer is not just an automaker but a strategic industrial project that could reshape Saudi Arabia's economic landscape. In 2026, the country will debut its own electric vehicles to the world—and that's just the beginning.
