BMW appears to have prematurely revealed one of the most anticipated additions to its M lineup. The official BMW USA website now features a page listing the 2027 BMW M2 xDrive. While there's no configurator, specifications, or pricing available, the model is directly referenced.

Technically, this could be an error or a prematurely published placeholder page. In practice, however, it confirms the all-wheel-drive M2 variant that has been rumored for years. According to insider reports, production is slated to begin in August 2026, which aligns logically with the 2027 model year for the North American market.

The M2 xDrive is expected to retain the 3.0-liter S58 engine, but with increased output of approximately 475 horsepower and around 650 Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive version will be offered exclusively with the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. BMW will continue to offer the rear-wheel-drive M2 with a six-speed manual, a detail that matters because it preserves the classic configuration for enthusiasts.

The added drivetrain will inevitably increase weight—estimated at 50–75 kg—potentially pushing the curb weight toward 1.8 tons. Visually, no major changes from the current G87 are anticipated, aside from possible badges and minor details.

The page's appearance on the BMW USA site indicates that internal systems are already prepared for the model's launch. For BMW M, this is part of a broader strategy: the brand plans to introduce around 30 new models by 2029, and the M2 xDrive will be a key element of that program, expanding its audience with a more versatile and faster version.
