Ford’s Almussafes factory near Valencia is gearing up for a comeback. After the shutdown of Mondeo, S‑Max and Galaxy production, the site is set to land two fresh programs at once. From 2027, it will build the next-generation Kuga and a coupe‑style crossover positioned to take over from the storied Focus.

Both models will ride on the versatile C2 architecture already underpinning the current Kuga. The lineup will continue to include hybrid and plug‑in hybrid versions, while fully electric variants are not expected—an intentional move to sidestep overlap with the battery-electric Explorer and Capri that use Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The logic here is straightforward: avoid internal crossfire and keep each product’s mission clear.

Planned output stands at around 200,000 vehicles a year, trimmed from earlier projections in light of new customs tariffs introduced by the Trump administration. It’s a sober recalibration that acknowledges policy headwinds without derailing the broader plan.

The new SUV will keep the Kuga name, while the coupe-crossover will likely take the Focus’s place as production of the hatchback ends in Germany next month. In effect, Ford’s European range is set to be dominated by crossovers and SUVs—a shift that mirrors where buyers have already migrated and should give Almussafes a cleaner, more focused brief.
