Cupra has officially brought the Formentor back in VZ5 form, reinstating one of the brand’s most attention-grabbing crossovers. Back under the hood is Audi’s celebrated 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder from the RS3, rated at 385 hp and 470 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG, with 0–100 km/h taking about 4.2 seconds—figures that point to serious pace while preserving the car’s distinctive character.

The latest VZ5 sets itself apart from its predecessor with a reworked aero kit, broader wheel arches, four copper-finished exhaust outlets and a more assertive front splitter. Inside, there are CupBucket sport seats, copper accents and a refreshed digital instrument display. The copper details and deep-set buckets lend the cabin a focused feel without tipping into excess.

The headline change is that the Formentor VZ5 will now be built with right-hand drive as well as left-hand drive, opening the door to the UK and Japan for the first time. Cupra plans a limited run of 4,000 units—a sensible move that pairs broader access with genuine rarity.

Brand chief Sven Schuwirth said the VZ5’s return is intended as a bold reaffirmation of the CUPRA spirit—passion, audacity and power. Pricing has not been announced, with expectations around £60,000. The message is clear: despite the approaching Euro 7 standards, Cupra isn’t ready to part with Audi’s iconic five-cylinder—and it’s easy to see why when that engine remains the car’s calling card.
