Xpeng G9L Price and Specs: How Much Does China's New Flagship SUV Cost

Pre-orders for the Xpeng G9L opened in China at 259,800 yuan (roughly $38,260). That is just 11,000 yuan above the current G9's 248,800 yuan, even though the new SUV is 229 mm longer and rides on a wheelbase stretched by 102 mm, to 5,120 mm and 3,100 mm respectively. The current G9's price and dimensions are confirmed by the brand's official configurator.

In an official release dated August 11, Xpeng unveiled both pure-electric and series-hybrid (EREV) versions of the G9L. The entry-level 702 Max is rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel-drive variants offer 660 or 755 km of CLTC range. The EREV claims 435 km before the gasoline generator kicks in, and up to 1,602 km of combined range.

There is a notable discrepancy with earlier filings. Back in June, China's certification database listed G9L batteries at 91.9 and 110 kWh, with an electric range of up to 805 km CLTC. That configuration is absent from the announced pre-order lineup, which tops out at 755 km. An 805 km version may still arrive later, but Xpeng has not promised it yet.

For long trips, battery capacity alone is not the whole story. Xpeng is touting 5C charging: at a compatible station, the car can add up to 450 km of CLTC range in just 9 minutes. The all-wheel-drive electric version, in its 755 km configuration, sprints to 100 km/h in 4.45 seconds; the EREV does it in 4.95 seconds. Every version gets rear-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of angle, giving the 5.12-meter SUV a claimed turning radius of just 5.4 meters.

The G9L shares its technical foundation with the larger GX, but trades the six-seat cabin for a five-seat layout with 1,152 liters of cargo space plus a 230-liter underfloor compartment. The GX already showed how high Xpeng is setting the technology bar for its large SUVs — it also combines electric and EREV powertrains, fast charging and its own compute platform.

The positioning is unusually tight. The base G9 costs 248,800 yuan, while the G9L's pre-order price is only slightly higher for a noticeably bigger body and newer tech. For comparison, the six-seat GX got a limited-time launch price of 269,800 yuan. But the two figures are not directly comparable: the G9L's is still a pre-order price, while the GX's is a promotional one.

The next checkpoint is the G9L's official launch. That is when we will find out whether the 259,800 yuan threshold holds, whether a certified 805 km version shows up, and which of today's announced configurations reach markets outside China first.
