BYD Sealion 08 2026 Price: Hybrid vs Electric Preorder Costs

230,000 yuan (roughly $32,000) is the new entry point into BYD Ocean's flagship SUV lineup. Preorders for the Sealion 08 have opened in China: the plug-in hybrid DM-i is provisionally priced at 230,000–260,000 yuan, while the fully electric version comes in at 250,000–280,000 yuan. The deposit is 2,000 yuan and, according to CnEVPost, remains refundable.

The gap between the base DM-i and EV trims is just 20,000 yuan. And the hybrid here isn’t simply the cheaper option: the Sealion 08 is the first BYD plug-in hybrid SUV compatible with Flash Charging. Regulatory filings for the PHEV version list a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with electric drive units, with an electric-only range of up to 400 km CLTC.

The fully electric Sealion 08 goes even further on paper. It gets the second-generation Blade Battery: the base 92.093 kWh pack delivers 710 km CLTC, while the 115.072 kWh version reaches up to 900 km. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant produces a combined 585 kW — about 796 hp — and is rated for 800 km.

Flash Charging doesn’t mean a guaranteed nine minutes at any public station. BYD says 10–70% in five minutes and 10–97% in nine minutes only applies with compatible next-generation infrastructure; the proprietary charger is rated for a peak of 1,500 kW. By the end of 2026, the company plans to build 20,000 such stations across China.

The car itself is larger than most familiar mid-size crossovers: 5,115 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Five- and six-seat layouts are offered, along with dual-chamber DiSus-A air suspension and rear-wheel steering. These specs were already known before preorders opened.

What makes this stage particularly interesting is the pricing. When the Sealion 08 debuted in Beijing, there was no exact price yet, and the main talking point was the 900 km CLTC range. Now the 230,000–280,000 yuan range puts the 5.1-meter flagship well below the 300,000 yuan psychological threshold the market had initially expected.

The second major shift is that Flash Charging is no longer exclusive to pure EVs. BYD has already explained how ultra-fast charging affects battery life, and the second-generation system is officially rated for up to 1.5 MW. In the Sealion 08, the technology reaches a BYD hybrid SUV for the first time — and it’s the DM-i that becomes the cheapest entry point into the model.

Final prices may still differ from the preliminary figures. But the pricing structure already shows BYD’s logic: the hybrid starts at roughly 230,000 yuan, the EV at around 250,000 yuan, and the premium for switching between the two powertrains is under 9% of the base price.
