Corvette Bowling Green plant shutdown 2026: dates and reason

Three separate weeks with no new Corvettes rolling off the line — that’s the schedule reportedly being prepared for the Bowling Green plant, according to the Mid Engine Corvette Forum. Production is set to pause during the weeks starting September 28, October 5, and October 12, 2026. The cause is described as a supplier issue, though the specific component hasn’t been disclosed.

The timing is especially sensitive for the 2027 Corvette. Regular production of the new model year began on June 8, and Bowling Green remains the only facility building the Corvette.

This wouldn’t be the first major pause in 2026. The plant lost three weeks earlier in the spring due to supply constraints, and GM later confirmed a further two-week shutdown around the turn of June and July. If the new schedule plays out in full, that would add up to roughly eight weeks without normal assembly over the course of the year.

Grand Sport is the model that matters most on the line right now. It debuts with a new naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8: the official 535 hp translates to roughly 542 metric horsepower, with torque around 705 Nm. Chevrolet began building the 2027 Corvette with this engine over the summer.

The schedule is even more sensitive for the hybrid Grand Sport X. It pairs the LS6 with a front electric motor, produces a combined 721 hp — about 731 metric horsepower — and runs all-wheel drive. Chevrolet still lists a fall 2026 launch window, meaning the three-week pause lands right in the middle of the model’s rollout. Orders for the Grand Sport X are already open, even though its production was scheduled to start later than the rest of the lineup.
