BMW has announced a recall of approximately 24,000 vehicles across the 1 Series, 2 Series, X1 and X2 lines produced from July 30 through October 13, 2025, inclusive. Of these, 6,277 are registered in Germany.

The campaign stems from a potential fault in second-row seat sensors installed in the affected cars. These modules coordinate the passive safety system, including the operation of seat-belt pretensioners and the deployment of airbags in a crash.

If the sensor elements are damaged, there is a risk the passenger protection system may not function correctly in a critical situation such as a road accident, reducing the level of protection for occupants and increasing the likelihood of injury. Given the systems at stake, attention to the second row is not a formality—it is key to preserving the safety envelope for everyone on board.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be invited to visit an authorized BMW dealer, where technicians will perform a free diagnostic check of the relevant components. If replacement of a seat-belt assembly or sensor is required, the repair will also be carried out at no cost to the owner.
