Toyota has unveiled the refreshed 2026 Corolla hatchback and introduced a new FX Edition. This version replaces the Nightshade and tips its hat to the late-1980s Corolla FX16, a nod that feels intentional without slipping into pure nostalgia. The hardware stays the course: the car rides on the TNGA-C platform and uses a 2.0-liter Dynamic-Force gasoline engine with 169 hp, paired with a Dynamic Shift CVT. The EPA combined figure is 6.7 l/100 km, and the driver can choose between Normal, Eco, and Sport modes. The headline changes are in the features. Every trim now comes standard with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and wireless smartphone charging. The suspension has been slightly retuned, though Toyota isn’t sharing details. The equipment mix reads as well-judged for everyday use.The lineup now consists of three trims: SE, XSE, and the new FX Edition. Based on the SE, the FX stands out with glossy white 18-inch wheels with black bolts, a sizable black rear spoiler, and an FX badge. Inside, there are sport seats trimmed in suede with orange stitching that also runs across the doors, steering wheel, and shift boot. The instrument panel is a 7-inch digital display. The visual package gives the hatch a brighter, more playful edge.Prices are up. The SE is now $24,180 (previously $23,505), while the top XSE is $27,175 (versus $26,805). The FX Edition comes in at $26,780, noticeably higher than the outgoing Nightshade at $24,505. Production will be limited to 1,600 units, all earmarked for the U.S., which should lend the FX a touch of exclusivity.Sales begin in fall 2025. Buyers will be able to choose from eight exterior colors, including two-tone combinations with a black roof. Overall, it’s a careful refresh with the FX Edition drawing most of the spotlight.
