Ford has restructured the trim packages for the 2026 Mustang Mach-E and changed its approach to standard equipment. The key change is that the front trunk (frunk) is no longer standard and is now offered as a separate $495 option available for all 2026 Mach-E versions.

The front compartment under the hood features a drainage system to handle moisture and can store bags, charging cables, or wet items. Previously, this space was a standard part of the electric crossover. Ford explains the move is practical, citing company data showing owners don't use the frunk frequently, hence making it optional.

A similar rationale applies to other elements. For instance, the 2026 Mustang Mach-E Rally no longer includes a standard rear spoiler—it's now a separate option. The Rally version's graphics have also become a paid extra. Meanwhile, the model has gained new features.

The lineup now includes a California Special package with Rave Blue accents on the exterior and interior, plus signature graphics inspired by classic Mustang special editions. Additionally, the updated Mach-E features redesigned rear door handles that simplify access for second-row passengers. Despite adjustments to its EV strategy, Ford confirms the Mustang Mach-E remains in production without radical concept changes.

Ford is clearly betting on configuration flexibility and a lower base price, but buyers will need to scrutinize the options list more carefully. The Mach-E remains one of the most recognizable electric crossovers in its segment, though familiar conveniences now come at an extra cost.
