BMW has responded to criticism of the new i3 sedan's design, which was unveiled as part of the Neue Klasse lineup. Oliver Heilmer, head of design for compact and midsize models, addressed questions raised after user reactions online.

One major topic was the panoramic projection solution on the windshield. The company stated that the dashboard was lowered compared to the previous 3 Series generation to avoid restricting the driver's view.

The 17.9-inch central screen is slightly angled toward the driver, which should improve ergonomics. However, this solution won't be used on all models, but rather depending on each car's concept. BMW also noted that the new steering wheel has become more comfortable thanks to redesigned grip zones.

Criticism also touched on the exterior, including the taillights. BMW emphasized that the production version differs from the concept car while still maintaining recognizable brand traits. The design incorporates elements inspired by models from the 1950s and 1960s.

The new i3 will serve as a benchmark for future brand models, including the next 3 Series generation. These new 2026 vehicles will develop BMW's unified design language and digital architecture.
