Volkswagen Group of America has issued a recall for certain 2025 Tiguan models due to improperly tightened rear tie rod bolts. The issue, discovered at the Puebla plant in Mexico, poses a serious risk to vehicle handling if left unchecked.
In the United States, 15 units produced between April 17 and May 28, 2025, are affected, along with five more sold in Canada. The problem first surfaced in June after a damaged rear axle was reported outside the US. Volkswagen’s investigation traced the fault to multiple tightening attempts within a specific production window.
No related incidents have been reported in the US. Dealers will replace the affected bolts free of charge, with customer notification letters scheduled to be mailed no later than October 10, 2025. Owners can check their VINs on Volkswagen’s consumer website, with all affected vehicles starting with «3» since they were assembled in Mexico.
To prevent recurrence, Volkswagen updated work instructions on June 28 and introduced new assembly process improvements.
The North American Tiguan, also known as Tayron in other markets, rides on the MQB Evo platform and is sold only in a two-row configuration. Standard equipment includes a 12-inch touchscreen, the IQ.DRIVE safety suite, and 10 airbags. Prices start at $30,245 before options, while the 2026 lineup adds the SEL R-Line Turbo version with 268 hp.
