At the 2025 Chengdu International Auto Show, SPEEDME.RU reporters came across the new-generation Volkswagen Sagitar L. The sedan arrives in three trims, with pre-order prices starting from 119.9 to 135.9 thousand yuan (1.34–1.5 million rubles). It’s the most extensive rework the nameplate has seen in years and positions itself to lead the affordable business-sedan field.

The design has taken a radical turn: the front now blends the headlights and grille into a single piece, visually widening the car. The bumper leans into a sporty theme with large air intakes. In profile, stretched lines and a sloping roof lend a faster stance, hinting at a coupe-like outline. At the rear, full-width taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem underscore the model’s premium ambitions; the whole composition looks markedly more upscale than before.

Dimensions have grown: length 4,812 mm, width 1,813 mm, height 1,479 mm, and a 2,731 mm wheelbase. That translates into more room inside, especially for those in the second row. Of note are the new mechanical flush door handles that pair electronic actuation with a traditional lock; they can withstand up to 200 N to break ice, a useful touch for winter.

The cabin revolves around digital tech. A 15-inch 2K central display takes center stage, joined by a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a head-up display. A Qualcomm 8155 chip handles performance, while voice control is built on iFlytek and ByteDance. On paper, this toolkit should deliver brisk responses and convenient voice interactions.

The Sagitar L is also the first Volkswagen in China fitted with the IQ.Pilot system. It enables the car to drive itself on highways, recognize traffic lights, and respond to other vehicles’ maneuvers. The feature set reads as a confident step toward stress-free commuting.

Under the hood sits a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 160 hp and 250 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 8.8 seconds, and top speed is 200 km/h. Not a track special, but brisk enough for a business sedan and likely adequate for daily overtakes.
