Toyota bZ5 2027: price, range and what changed in China

A gap of 20,000 yuan separates the official price list of the Toyota bZ5 2027 from the temporary price buyers actually pay. FAW Toyota kept the base cost of six trims at 129,800–199,800 yuan, but is offering a range of 109,800–179,800 yuan once all incentives are applied. For the entry-level trim, that’s a 15.4% cut — roughly $15,300 at current exchange rates.

The reason for such an aggressive push shows up in sales. Only 529 bZ5 units were sold in China in July, against 1,494 a year earlier — a drop of 64.59%. The model peaked at 3,019 units back in September 2025. In other words, Toyota isn’t refreshing the crossover on a routine model-cycle schedule — it needs to win back buyer interest.

The biggest technical change is in the driver-assistance suite. Toyota Pilot has moved from Momenta 5.0 to Momenta 6.0 with the R6 model, delivering 544 TOPS of computing power and support for city-level navigation-assisted driving. Chinese sources also point to lidar on the updated version.

The powertrain is largely unchanged: the front-mounted motor still makes 200 kW, or 268 hp. BYD’s Blade LFP batteries come in 65.28 and 73.98 kWh capacities, with claimed CLTC range of 550 km and 630 km. Dimensions are also carried over — 4,780x1,866x1,510 mm on a 2,880 mm wheelbase.

Toyota’s reliance on Chinese electronics is becoming systemic. The China-built electric bZ7 already runs on local Huawei and Momenta technology, and another Chinese-market crossover, the bZ3X, is even being considered for export to ASEAN countries. The bZ5 fits the same pattern: the Japanese brand keeps its own safety platform and badge, but the batteries, software and much of the digital hardware increasingly rely on Chinese partners.

Still, 109,800 yuan shouldn’t be read as the new permanent MSRP. Of the total 20,000-yuan discount, 16,000 yuan comes from a cash incentive and another 4,000 yuan from a trade-in bonus, so buyers without a car to trade in won’t get the full advertised cut.
