Nio Firefly new special edition 2026: price, release date and what to expect

Nio is selling Firefly through design again, not new hardware. The brand has released a teaser for a special edition due to be revealed on August 28: the clip features southern Italy, the sea, citrus fruit and the word spiaggia — “beach” — but barely shows the car itself. This will be the compact EV’s sixth special edition.

Previous experiments show why Nio keeps running this playbook. The Pixel Player edition launched in a run of 333 units at 135,800 yuan (roughly $20,050) and cost 13.4% more than the base Firefly. The entire run sold out in under eight hours. Nio’s own description confirms the main changes were to the metal roof, wheels, trim, graphics and interface — not a new powertrain.

Firefly is once again trying to monetize visual individuality. The Halo Habitat series shown in July was priced at 133,300 yuan, while the standard car starts at 119,800 yuan. Firefly’s July deliveries reached 5,771 units — up 143.9% year-on-year — though that was down from June’s 6,946 units. Nio’s official report confirms the July figure.

Against that backdrop, the new edition looks less like a model premiere and more like a continuation of Firefly’s lifestyle strategy. The brand has already used custom projects outside China: at its Athens launch, Firefly showed collaborative work with a local artist, while Nio is expanding the role of its junior brand in its sales structure.

The name, price, production run and equipment of the new edition remain unrevealed. So the key question for August 28 is whether Firefly will repeat its old formula — the same EV plus rare design and a price premium — or add technical changes to a special edition for the first time.
