Bentley Torcal power, battery and range: preliminary specifications

Bentley has officially confirmed two records for the upcoming electric Torcal: it will become the most powerful and quickest-accelerating production car in the brand's history. The company has not yet disclosed the exact output or acceleration time, so the widely circulated figure of roughly 850 bhp should not be presented as Bentley's final specification.

The benchmark Torcal has to beat is already known. The current Continental GT Speed produces 782 hp and 1000 N·m, reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and can run on to 335 km/h. Bentley explicitly describes Torcal as more powerful and quicker off the line. The roughly 850 bhp figure comes from Autocar after a drive in a pre-production prototype. In metric horsepower, that is about 862 PS.

The preliminary technical picture is already fairly detailed. The newcomer is expected to use two electric motors and all-wheel drive, an 800-volt architecture and a battery with 113 kWh of gross capacity, of which about 108 kWh is usable. Estimated WLTP range is around 595 km, although Bentley notes on its official website that European energy-consumption and range figures are still awaiting homologation.

Torcal is based on Volkswagen Group's PPE architecture and is technically related to the Porsche Cayenne Electric and Audi Q6 e-tron. According to Autocar, the rear motor is linked to developments from the Cayenne Electric, while the front motor is related to the Q6 e-tron. That does not mean the Bentley will receive Porsche's maximum output: the brand is deliberately focusing not only on absolute figures, but also on smooth power delivery and comfort.

That makes the comparison with the related Porsche especially interesting. The Cayenne Turbo Electric can deliver more than 1100 hp, while sources currently put the Torcal at roughly 862 PS. Bentley would still set an internal record: the preliminary figure is comfortably above the current Continental GT Speed's 782 hp, even if it remains below the electric Cayenne's peak output.

The technical relationship with the Cayenne is no surprise. Even during prototype testing of the Torcal at the Nürburgring, the PPE platform was regarded as one of the project's key ingredients, while early power estimates climbed much higher. The picture is now more realistic: Bentley officially confirms a brand record, while roughly 862 PS remains the most concrete preliminary reference point.

Torcal is not intended to become an electric Bentayga. Bentley calls it a fourth standalone model line alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. The company is also trying to carry the familiar atmosphere of its cars into the EV era: the Curation Engine system simultaneously adjusts lighting, sound, climate, air quality and digital information in the cabin.

A separate concept was developed for the soundscape. Bentley recorded real musical instruments for Torcal — drums, viola and bass guitar — to create a sound inspired by the brand's historic powertrains, including its V8 and W12 engines. The manufacturer stresses that the aim is not simply to imitate an engine: the sound should respond to the driver's inputs and convey the character of the car.

As of September 2, the key point is officially confirmed: Torcal will be more powerful than the 782-hp Continental GT Speed and will accelerate faster. Bentley is still keeping the exact specifications under wraps.
