Rivian has issued a recall for a limited number of 2025 R1T pickups and R1S SUVs in the US due to an improperly grounded connection in the high-voltage distribution box. According to documents published by the NHTSA, the defect could cause a sudden loss of drive power if left unaddressed.

The issue was first discovered in March 2025, when a technician identified a faulty ground strap in a battery pack replaced under warranty. Further investigation revealed that vehicles built between September and December 2024 (R1T) and October 2024 through February 2025 (R1S) might be affected. All belong to the 2025 model year.

Rivian confirmed no accidents have been linked to the defect. Owners will be notified by mail no later than October 3, 2025, and repairs will be carried out free of charge. Depending on inspection results, technicians will either fix the ground strap connection or replace the entire high-voltage battery pack.

Both the R1T and R1S are assembled at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois plant. Priced from $70,990 and $76,990 respectively, the EVs are offered in multiple trims. The entry-level Dual Standard version delivers 533 hp and up to 270 miles of range, while the top-tier Quad Max produces 1,025 hp and over 400 miles in conserve mode. The EPA currently rates the longest-range R1T at 420 miles and the R1S at 410 miles.
