Stellantis and Pony.ai, a leading autonomous driving company, have signed a significant agreement focused on developing advanced technologies and robotaxi solutions for the European market. As part of the collaboration, Pony.ai’s software will be integrated directly into an electric version of a mid-size commercial van from Stellantis. This setup will allow the vehicle to operate in a self-driving mode that meets the SAE Level 4 automation standard. In the near term, driverless tests are planned in Luxembourg, starting with the Peugeot e-Traveller. Once the initial phases are completed, trials are scheduled to expand to other European cities beginning in 2026. The emphasis is on light commercial vehicles—an apt choice for dense, stop‑and‑go urban environments. Starting with a passenger-oriented model like the e‑Traveller also neatly aligns with robotaxi use cases, where cabin space and easy access matter.Stellantis’s AV Ready platform is designed to deliver high levels of reliability and safety for vehicles equipped with autonomous systems. It fulfills the requirements for SAE Level 4 operation, aiming for precise, efficient movement without a human driver. A platform approach like this hints at a push to standardize hardware and software interfaces, which can simplify validation and speed up deployment across multiple models.
