Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new VLE electric minivan—a versatile model built on an 800-volt architecture that essentially serves as the electric successor to the R-Class. The focus is squarely on efficiency, fast charging, and premium comfort, according to the publication 32CARS.The NMC battery, with a capacity of 115 kWh, delivers up to 700 km of range under WLTP testing. Support for DC fast charging at up to 500 kW means you can add 353 km of range in just 15 minutes. The entry-level version will be the front-wheel-drive VLE 300, producing 272 horsepower. Later, the VLE 400 4Matic will arrive, featuring dual electric motors and a combined output of 409 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 97 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The platform borrows familiar solutions from the upcoming CLA EV and is designed for maximum energy efficiency, with Mercedes claiming a powertrain efficiency of 93%.The interior is a central part of the concept. The VLE can seat up to eight, with rear rows optionally equipped with captain’s chairs that swivel backward. A panoramic 31.3-inch screen is available for the second row. The seats don’t fold into the floor but are modular and removable. The AirMatic air suspension uses Google Maps data to optimize ride height in aerodynamically favorable zones, while rear-wheel steering shrinks the turning circle to match that of a CLA sedan.Europe will be the first market for the VLE, followed by China. The model is set to reach the United States in 2027, with production localized in Spain—a move that could affect pricing due to current tariffs. Full specifications and U.S. versions will be detailed closer to launch.
