Kia has revealed new details about the compact EV2 electric crossover, which is being developed specifically for the European market. The model's main feature will be its high level of acoustic comfort—engineers have placed special emphasis on reducing noise and vibrations.

In electric vehicles, the absence of an internal combustion engine makes other sounds more noticeable. As a result, road noise, aerodynamic turbulence, and high-frequency sounds from electrical system components can be more pronounced inside the cabin. This is why engineers at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre focused on improving NVH performance—noise, vibration, and harshness levels.

Complex computer simulations were used in developing the EV2, allowing potential noise sources to be identified in advance. Additionally, the cars were tested on special rigs where acoustic characteristics can be measured precisely without external interference.

To make the cabin as quiet as possible, the EV2 features acoustic tires, special sound-insulating carpets, and sound-absorbing elements in the wheel arches. Acoustic glass is also used in the doors and windshield to reduce wind noise at high speeds.

Special attention has been given to the high-frequency sounds typical of electric vehicles. Components like the inverter and DC/DC converter can produce a characteristic tone. To address this, the design incorporates additional sound insulation elements, including special shielding for the front trunk and improved insulation for the instrument panel.

At the same time, Kia has also included safety-related sound signals. The electric car is equipped with a pedestrian warning system for low speeds, and the speed limit control system's alert is tuned to remain noticeable without being irritating to the driver.

The Kia EV2 will be a compact electric SUV in the B-SUV segment. Buyers will be offered two battery versions: a 42.2 kWh battery with a range of up to 317 km and a larger 61 kWh battery capable of up to 453 km on the WLTP cycle. The electric crossover will support DC fast charging, AC charging up to 22 kW, an EV route planning system, Plug & Charge functionality, and bidirectional charging capability.

Beyond technology, the EV2 focuses on practicality. The compact crossover will offer a spacious interior, flexible rear seat configurations, and a trunk with up to 362 liters of capacity. This model should make electric vehicles more accessible to European buyers.
