BMW in North America has announced a recall of 1,571 BMW and MINI vehicles due to a potential defect in the front seat belt pretensioner mechanisms. The recall covers a limited number of 2025–2026 model-year vehicles, including:BMW X1 (2025–2026);BMW X2 (2025–2026);MINI Cooper (2025–2026);MINI Cooper Convertible (2025–2026);MINI Countryman S ALL4 (2025–2026);MINI Countryman SE ALL4 (2025).According to BMW, the torsion bar in both front seat belt pretensioner mechanisms may have been damaged during production. This mechanism locks and tightens the belt during a collision. A damaged part could keep the belt from properly restraining occupants, raising the risk of injury in a crash. With a component meant to cinch the belt at the critical moment, such a flaw deserves prompt attention, even in a small batch of cars.BMW says dealers will replace both front pretensioner mechanisms at no charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on November 7, 2025.
