Genesis unveiled the 641-horsepower GV60 Magma electric crossover at the New York Auto Show. The new model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds and will be produced in limited numbers. For the market, this move represents the brand's attempt to compete with BMW M and AMG in the electric vehicle segment.

New York Debut

At the 2026 New York Auto Show, Genesis showcased the GV60 Magma, the first production model of its new Magma performance line. The car is positioned as a road-going version of a racing concept.

This model will be rare, with a limited production run announced, which enhances its status and targets enthusiasts.

Technical Details and Features

The GV60 Magma is equipped with an electric powertrain producing 641 horsepower and 583 Nm of torque. It sprints to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds.

Key features include a drift mode for track use, a Boost Mode for temporary power increases, and a virtual transmission that simulates an 8-speed automated gearbox.

It also has a system that mimics engine sounds, aiming to add excitement to the driving experience—a rare approach for electric vehicles.

How It Stands Out and Its Competition

The GV60 Magma builds on the standard GV60 but focuses on dynamics and track performance. Unlike the base version, it emphasizes handling and driver engagement.

Its main competitors are the BMW iX M Performance, Audi RS versions of electric cars, and upcoming AMG EVs. Genesis is trying to carve out a niche for emotional electric vehicles, where no clear leader has emerged yet.

Why This Matters

Genesis is taking a strategic step by bringing its performance philosophy into the electric segment. This move intensifies competition in the premium class and shows that EVs are moving beyond being just quiet and efficient, becoming a full-fledged alternative to traditional sports cars.
