Tesla is effectively saying goodbye to the Model S and Model X with the release of a limited-edition Plaid Signature series. These cars will mark the final chapter for the brand's flagship models, which have been in production for over 14 years. Only 250 Model S units and 100 Model X units will be built, available exclusively to select customers by invitation. Priced at $159,420, these vehicles are significantly more expensive than standard versions, turning them into collector's items.

The series' main feature is its exclusive design. The body is painted in a new "Garnet Red" color, complemented by gold Tesla and Plaid logos. Inside, there's white Alcantara upholstery with gold stitching and individual numbering for each car, highlighting its uniqueness.

The equipment is also top-tier: standard features include Full Self-Driving (with assisted driving capability), free Supercharger access, extended services, and lifetime online functionality. The Model S additionally gets carbon-ceramic brakes, while the Model X receives 22-inch wheels.

This release is directly tied to a shift in Tesla's strategy. The company plans to focus on mass-market models and new projects, including robotaxis and the Optimus humanoid robot, freeing up production capacity.

Tesla is making a smart move by turning its outgoing models into collector's items. But at the same time, it's a signal: the era of expensive flagship sedans for the brand is ending, giving way to more mass-market and technologically advanced products.
