California has seen the first sighting of the Genesis GV80 Hybrid — the Korean premium brand’s first hybrid crossover, slated to debut in fall 2026. Outwardly, the prototype is almost indistinguishable from the standard GV80, yet a new hybrid system based on Hyundai’s P1 + P2 architecture sits inside and beneath the bodywork.

The setup pairs a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors: the first (P1) is tuned to trim fuel consumption, while the second (P2) lends a hand during acceleration. Preliminary figures point to about 7.4 L/100 km; with an 80-liter tank, the GV80 Hybrid could cover up to 1,080 km between fill-ups. The coupe version will come in slightly higher — around 8.4 L/100 km.

Power is notable too: the hybrid system delivers 362 hp, a 19% increase over the gasoline GV80 2.5 Turbo. That extra headroom should make highway merges and overtakes easier.

The system also brings EV-style conveniences: a Stay Mode that lets you run the air conditioning and multimedia without starting the engine, and V2L capability to power external devices at up to 3.6 kW — useful on road trips and at the campsite. Practical touches that feel aimed at real-world use.

The Genesis GV80 Hybrid and GV80 Coupe Hybrid are scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, with a G80 Hybrid sedan to follow later.
