Stellantis has announced a recall of 298,439 vehicles in the United States over a potentially dangerous defect in the shift mechanism. According to information found by SPEEDME.RU on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the shift cable in certain 2013–2016 Dodge Dart models can detach from the transmission. If that happens, the car may not hold in Park and could begin moving on its own. A shifter cable that can pop free is precisely the kind of flaw that erodes confidence—when Park isn’t truly Park, even a routine stop turns fraught.

The manufacturer said owners will be notified to visit service centers. The company is currently developing a technical remedy, which will be performed at no cost to customers.

This recall ranks among Stellantis’s largest in 2025. Just a month earlier, the company also called back more than 123,000 Jeep SUVs due to body trim pieces that could detach and pose a risk to other road users.

The current defect carries serious stakes, from rollaways to potential crashes and injuries. NHTSA urges Dodge Dart owners to set the parking brake every time they stop the car until repairs are completed—a simple habit that can help avoid an unnecessary scare.
