Honda has announced a new phase in its collaboration with California startup Helm.ai, doubling its investment in artificial intelligence for autonomous control systems. The goal is to speed up the rollout of AD and ADAS features across the brand’s electric and hybrid models. The move underscores a clear push to bring advanced driving technologies to market faster and in higher volumes.

Helm.ai is building Helm Vision, an end-to-end architecture in which AI handles the entire pipeline—from interpreting the road environment to steering inputs. The technology is already undergoing trials at autonomy levels 2+ and 3, with plans to integrate it into future Honda Zero models, a lineup set to debut in 2026. Opting for an end-to-end stack suggests a bet on fewer hand-tuned modules, which could simplify integration and shorten development cycles.

Honda has worked with Helm.ai since 2021, including participation in a $30 million funding round. The new contribution is focused on advancing machine learning and adapting it to production platforms. The company targets mass deployment by 2027, positioning its upcoming vehicles a step closer to fully autonomous transport. The timeline sets clear expectations for when drivers might start seeing these capabilities at scale.
