Kia has set a new Guinness World Records benchmark, showcasing the potential of its electric vans. A Kia PV5 Cargo, loaded with a full 790 kilograms of payload, covered 693 kilometers on a single charge — the best distance achieved among light commercial electric vehicles. For a fully laden LCV, that range resets expectations for everyday duty cycles.

The attempt took place in late September on roads north of Frankfurt am Main. Behind the wheel were motoring journalist George Barrow and Kia engineer Christian Nigemayer. The drive unfolded in real urban traffic, with traffic lights, roundabouts, and more than 370 meters of elevation change. That mix, together with the constant climbs and descents, makes the result more than a lab statistic.

The route was a 58‑kilometer closed loop completed 12 times. In total, the PV5 Cargo covered 693.38 kilometers without recharging, running on the standard 71.2‑kWh battery. To rule out any interference, the charging port and cargo bay were sealed.

The run was observed by TÜV Hessen and buck Vermessung, with GPS and in‑cabin cameras recording the process for 22 hours and 30 minutes. Continuous third‑party oversight lends extra credibility to the result.

The PV5 is the first production model on the new modular PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle), built on the E‑GMP.S architecture. Future iterations based on it will include Cargo, Passenger, Crew Van, and even a camper.

The record‑setting Kia PV5 Cargo will make its official debut at the Solutrans 2025 show in France on November 18.
