Honda has announced a wide recall of 406,290 vehicles in the United States over a potentially dangerous wheel issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that on certain vehicles fitted with aluminum wheels sold as accessories, a manufacturing flaw could allow a wheel to detach.

According to SPEEDME.RU, the issue surfaced during quality control: wheel fasteners may loosen and, in extreme cases, a wheel could separate from the hub. That scenario poses a clear risk for drivers and everyone around them, and it’s good that the problem was flagged early.

Honda has already notified owners of the affected cars and is preparing free wheel replacements at authorized service centers. Letters with instructions are set to go out in the coming weeks.

The company has not specified which models are included in the campaign but stresses that all work will be carried out at no cost to owners.

Recalls are never convenient, yet this proactive approach looks prudent when there’s any chance of wheel detachment; better to bring cars in now than gamble with safety later.
