Hyundai faces another major recall in the U.S. market, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announcing a campaign covering 568,576 Palisade crossovers. The issue involves side curtain airbags intended for third-row passengers, which may deploy incorrectly in a crash, increasing injury risk. Hyundai has not yet presented a final solution, noting that a corrective measure is under development.

The airbags are supplied by Swedish company Autoliv, the world's largest manufacturer of passive safety systems. The airbag modules in question prompted a federal investigation, and NHTSA data determined the scope of the upcoming repair.

Simultaneously, Hyundai is launching another recall affecting 41,651 vehicles also in the U.S. This problem relates to potential instrument cluster failure. A software glitch can cause the display to shut off, failing to show critical readings like speed. The company plans to fix the defect with a software update.

Combined, the two recalls involve over 610,000 vehicles, making January one of the most challenging months for Hyundai's North American division. The NHTSA report highlights that the Palisade, Hyundai's flagship family SUV, is under scrutiny due to design specifics of the third-row side curtain airbags, where an incorrect deployment trajectory is possible.

Hyundai has not specified when repairs will begin, but the regulator states that service instructions will be published after final approval of the procedure. Owners will receive notifications and service invitations once the defect assessment is complete.
