Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the updated 2027 S-Class, a model the company describes as a "deep overhaul" with 50% of components replaced or upgraded. While the exterior redesign is restrained, the sedan has become significantly more technologically advanced, featuring everything from a new full-panel Superscreen to revised powertrains and a cloud-connected suspension. The styling draws inspiration from the Vision Iconic concept: an enlarged eight-segment grille is filled with miniature stars, and patterns appear in the LED lighting graphics. The hood ornament is available with illumination, and the rear lights feature triple logos. The AMG Line has become noticeably more aggressive, with a dark grille, an "muzzle" from the E-Class, and new 21-inch wheels. The main interior change is the MBUX Superscreen: two 12.3-inch displays and a central 14.4-inch screen are integrated under a single piece of glass. The doors and center console have been redesigned to match the new architecture, and "piano lacquer" trim has been replaced with natural materials. Mercedes has brought back physical buttons for volume and cruise control on the steering wheel, while keeping touch-sensitive zones for other functions. The new version of MBUX uses AI models from Microsoft and Google. Navigation builds three-dimensional mapping and provides step-by-step AR guidance. For rear passengers, there's a High-End Entertainment system with two 13.1-inch screens and built-in cameras, supporting Zoom, Teams, and Webex. The engine lineup has been fully refreshed. The S 500 gets an upgraded 3.0-liter inline-six, producing 442 horsepower and 443–472 Nm of torque, plus an over-torque function. The S 580e develops 576 horsepower and 553 Nm, making it a powerful hybrid with an increased electric motor contribution. The headline news is a new V8 M177 Evo, delivering 530 horsepower and 553 Nm, featuring a flat-plane crankshaft design and improved sound tuning while meeting stricter emission standards. The Airmatic suspension is connected to Mercedes' cloud, allowing the car to share data on potholes and obstacles and pre-adjust the dampers—information is stored for 14 days. Additionally, the E-Active Body Control system is available, altering the characteristics of each shock absorber individually. Full rear-axle steering, with 4.5 degrees of movement, has become standard. The 2027 S-Class will hit the market within the year, with the S 500 approaching $125,000 and the hybrid and V8 models nearing $135,000. In competition with the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes is betting on technology, dynamics, and updated luxury to keep its flagship at the top of the segment.
