Canadian company Wilderness Vans has completed a unique project based on a 2006 Ford E-350, transforming the classic van into a fully capable off-road camper. The team worked on the vehicle for nearly six years, delivering impressive results from both technical and practical standpoints. A key element was the installation of a full-time four-wheel-drive system using a U-Joint Off-Road kit.

Paired with BFGoodrich off-road tires, a reinforced Fox suspension, and a steering stabilizer, the van can confidently handle off-asphalt terrain. Up front sits a massive Aluminess bumper with recovery points, a winch mount, and auxiliary lighting, while the rear features a heavy-duty bumper with swing-out holders for a spare tire and a cargo box.

The roof conversion deserves special mention. It increased the interior height to a level where occupants can stand fully upright. The roof includes windows with mosquito screens, a Maxxair fan, and solar panels.

The interior is designed as a compact yet functional living space. It features a kitchen with an induction cooktop, a mini-fridge, and a sink, along with a dry toilet, a water system with a boiler and an outdoor shower, and a convertible sleeping area. Importantly, the rear section remains open for cargo transport.

This project clearly demonstrates that even an older Ford E-350 can be converted into a modern, self-sufficient camper that outperforms many factory-built motorhomes.
