In the United States, one of Nissan's largest recalls in recent years has begun. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced two separate campaigns affecting a total of 642,698 Nissan Rogue crossovers, known as the X-Trail in some markets. The issue stems from defects that could lead to a loss of power or even engine fires.

The first part of the recall involves 318,781 vehicles, where cases of broken throttle body gears have been identified. Damage to this mechanism can cause sudden power loss or complete failure, which is particularly dangerous at high speeds.

The second campaign covers 323,917 Rogues and is related to engine bearing damage. According to the regulator, the defect may result in the release of hot oil, increasing the risk of fire and accompanied by a loss of traction. NHTSA requires dealers to reprogram the engine control unit software and replace damaged components if necessary.

Both problems are classified as safety threats, and the automaker must notify owners promptly. Nissan has not made any public comments yet, but based on NHTSA documents, it has agreed to the proposed measures.

The Rogue is one of the brand's best-selling crossovers in North America, so this recall affects a significant portion of the fleet. Repairs will be conducted free of charge. The scale of the campaign underscores the strict safety oversight in the U.S. and the market's growing sensitivity to mechanical failures in popular models.
