BMW has announced a recall of 58,713 vehicles in the U.S. after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a risk of damage to the wiring harness that controls the air conditioning system. This damage could lead to a short circuit and consequently increase the likelihood of component failure.

The affected models include the BMW M5, M5 Sportswagon, and the 750e xDrive hybrid sedan. The company confirmed the recall, explaining that internal quality checks revealed the need to improve cable routing in the affected production batches. A BMW representative emphasized that no accidents or incidents related to the defect have been reported to date.

Owners will need to visit a dealership for diagnostics and adjustment of the harness routing, with replacement if necessary. The campaign is being conducted free of charge, as is standard for all regulated recall activities.

This situation highlights an ongoing trend for premium brands: the increasing complexity of electrical systems raises the demands for installation quality, even in the high-price segment. For BMW, this represents another example of a preventive recall aimed at addressing a potential risk before any actual consequences occur.
