Volkswagen Group Africa has issued a recall for the Polo Vivo model manufactured between February 2025 and February 2026. The recall addresses a potential issue with the parking brake.

According to the company, a rivet in the handbrake lever mechanism may not meet specifications. This could result in incomplete brake engagement or, in rare instances, unintended disengagement. The risk is highest when parking on an incline.

In South Africa, 25,729 vehicles are affected. All cars will be inspected at authorized dealerships and repaired free of charge for owners if necessary.

The National Consumer Commission regulator has urged owners to schedule inspections promptly. Until the check is performed, owners of manual versions are advised to leave their cars in first gear, while automatic versions should be in "P" mode. Avoiding steep slopes when parking is also recommended.

The company is already notifying customers directly.
