Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 3,170 Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles from the 2025-2026 model years in the United States. The recall addresses a potential failure of the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS), which could cause the front passenger airbag to deactivate and violate FMVSS Standard No. 208.According to an NHTSA report reviewed by SPEEDME journalists, the Occupant Classification Sensor might incorrectly detect whether an adult or child is in the front passenger seat. If the sensor fails, the passenger airbag will be disabled, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.Ford's materials clarify that the issue stems from possible damage to OCS components from a specific production period at a second-tier supplier. When this occurs, the SRS warning light illuminates on the dashboard, accompanied by a "Passenger Airbag OFF" message. The recall affects 1,515 Bronco Sport and 1,655 Maverick units manufactured at the Hermosillo, Mexico plant between July and December 2025. Ford has instructed dealers not to demonstrate or deliver these new vehicles until the problem is resolved. The passenger classification sensor will be replaced free of charge, though a final repair solution is expected by November 2026.While only six sensor failures have been confirmed, with no reports of accidents or injuries, the campaign covers over three thousand vehicles. For owners, this means a mandatory check of the passive safety system; for the market, it results in a temporary halt in new vehicle deliveries by dealers.
