BYD has unveiled the Formula X concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The electric supercar takes the form of a speedster, with a two-seat cabin, a carbon-fiber structure and a pronounced focus on aerodynamics, showcasing the brand’s new ambitions in the high-performance segment.

Formula X is positioned as a concept car that signals the brand’s future design and technology direction. Its exterior was penned by chief designer Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked with leading European marques.

The car uses an open body without a roof and is clearly aimed at track-oriented performance, setting it apart from the company’s production models.

Aerodynamics are a defining part of the concept. The body features numerous air channels, a revised front splitter and a rear diffuser. Lightweight materials, including carbon fiber, are used to reduce weight and sharpen handling.

The cabin is arranged as two separate cockpits with an unmistakably race-inspired layout. It features sporty bucket seats, a carbon-fiber steering wheel and a digital instrument display.

The arrival of Formula X shows that BYD is broadening its strategy and moving beyond the mass market. Projects like this help shape the brand’s image and highlight its engineering capabilities. At the same time, its core business remains focused on production EVs, where competition with Tesla and other Chinese manufacturers continues to intensify.
