Sales of the revived Honda Prelude have kicked off in Japan, and early owners are already sharing their impressions. The new hybrid coupe is turning into a small street event: it pulls in stares—especially from men over 60 who once owned earlier generations of the Prelude.

According to the Japanese blog Creative Trend, the car does more than resurrect a storied name; it sparks genuine reactions from passersby. Drivers are often stopped in parking lots and asked about the price, specs, and fuel economy—no surprise, considering the coupe can cost up to 6.18 million yen in Japan (around $41,000).

Built on the Civic Type R platform, the new Prelude differs with a softer suspension tune and an electric brake booster. Owners highlight its stability and comfort in both city traffic and on the highway, even if this coupe isn’t aimed at track work. The setup comes across as tailored to daily driving rather than lap times, which suits its character. Drawbacks include limited outward visibility and headlights that switch on too early, a quirk driven by local regulations.

The model is slated to reach the United States by late 2025. The U.S. version will use the same hybrid system, with Honda promising a more dynamic calibration. It seems an ’80s classic is entering a new chapter—now with a quieter powertrain and the attention of nostalgic fans.
