Toyota is preparing the third-generation Fortuner, internally coded AN250. According to the latest information, it will not ride on the TNGA-F platform as previously assumed, but on an updated version of the IMV chassis known from the current Hilux. The choice preserves the strength of a frame-based construction while helping to keep costs under control—a pragmatic call for a rugged SUV.On the outside, the Fortuner will look more muscular, with a vertical grille, slim headlights, and an overtly off-road silhouette. The cabin is set to gain premium materials and a modern layout similar to the new Hilux. The big news is the retention of the proven 2.8-liter diesel, confirmed by documents from Australia’s transport ministry. Alongside it, a new 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine from the GR division will replace the aging V6. Toyota is also considering a fully electric Fortuner, following the electrified Hilux.Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic. The model is expected to reach India between April and November 2026, shortly after the debut of the new Hilux Travo. The Fortuner remains a symbol of practicality and reliability, and now looks set to add contemporary comfort and technology. If Toyota keeps the original spirit intact, the AN250 could become the most accomplished Fortuner in the model’s history.
