Kia has confirmed it is preparing a second facelift for the K5 sedan: the project, internally coded DL3 PE2, is now in development, and the updated version is slated to reach the market in the first half of 2027. The brief is pragmatic—keep the model on the line at least until 2030 without an expensive platform swap. The production target underscores the intent: more than 80,000 units a year, signaling a real bet on the segment rather than a token life extension.

The rationale is straightforward: the global shift to electric vehicles is unfolding more slowly than forecasters expected a few years ago, while interest in hybrid solutions is rising. In this climate, it makes more sense to refine proven models and cover diverse markets with hybrids than to abruptly retool lineups around pure EVs. According to 32CARS.RU, the refreshed K5 will retain a broad set of powertrains—gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants. That mix provides flexibility on emissions requirements and pricing, tapping into the momentum for budget-minded hybrids as a middle ground between combustion and full electric.

The current K5 generation debuted in 2019 and received its first facelift in 2023. Despite the dominance of crossovers, the sedan maintains steady demand: in Korea, monthly sales exceed 3,000 units, which helps explain Kia’s decision to extend the model’s life cycle.
