Jaguar Land Rover has announced a recall due to a potential issue with the front passenger airbag. In Japan, the campaign covers four models: the Range Rover Evoque, Evoque PHEV, Jaguar E-PACE, and E-PACE PHEV. It applies to vehicles built from September 2020 through October 2024, with 4,716 cars slated for inspection and repair.

The recall is prompted by a manufacturing defect: in some vehicles, the passenger airbag was folded incorrectly during assembly. As a result, it may deploy improperly or even tear in a collision, failing to provide adequate protection. There is also a risk of hot gas leakage, which could potentially cause burns to the passenger.

The manufacturer will replace the affected airbags free of charge on all impacted vehicles. No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported so far. Given the role of airbags as a last line of defense, addressing the problem proactively looks like the only sensible course, and it underscores how much precision in assembly matters for safety systems.
