Volvo Cars has officially started production of the new EX60 electric crossover, a model the company is counting on heavily in the years ahead. Output is now under way at the Torslanda plant in Sweden, and the first customer deliveries will begin in summer 2026.

The EX60 is the first fully electric Volvo to be developed and built in Sweden. The company has already confirmed strong demand for the model in Europe, particularly in Germany and on its home market.

Against the backdrop of a strong order book, Volvo has decided to increase production volumes for 2026 and even keep the plant running through the summer period for the first time in its history.

The new crossover is aimed at the midsize SUV segment and offers a range of up to 810 km on the WLTP cycle. Fast charging allows the battery to go from 10 to 80% in just 16 minutes when connected to high-power chargers. In pricing, the EX60 will be comparable to the popular hybrid XC60, making it competitive against other EVs in the class.

The EX60 is seen as one of the main growth drivers for Volvo. The model is expected to become a major export product and strengthen Sweden’s position as a hub for electric vehicle development. To prepare for production, the company invested about SEK 10 billion in upgrading the plant, including the introduction of megacasting, a new battery assembly line and broader production improvements.

Volvo EX60 is more than just a new model; it is a strategic step in the brand’s shift toward an electric future. Strong demand and ambitious production plans show the company is making a serious commitment to this segment and is ready to compete on a global level.
